ROGER New York

One and a half million U.S. veterans are at risk of homelessness, often due to a lack of early access to benefits, housing, and mental health support. While over 45,000 veteran service organizations exist nationwide, many veterans don’t know where to start or how to qualify for services. Additionally, many of the case managers and social workers that veterans turn to in crisis also struggle to navigate fragmented systems and outdated directories.

This is why the Kyle Palmieri Foundation is launching ROGER, a centralized, searchable platform that connects New York veterans and their families to personalized, verified, up-to-date resources and service providersacross key categories, including but not limited to education and employment, at-risk and homeless services, and family services.

Key features of the platform include:

  • Centralized search with customizable filters (location, eligibility, demographics) that allows veterans to quickly find services available that they’re eligible for

  • Verified directory entries showing contact details, certifications, and tax IDs

  • Veteran-first design with no user login required

  • Automated real-time data monitoring (Hexowatch) to ensure accuracy

  • 24/7 chatbot support for veterans and caseworkers

  • Continuous improvement via user testing, testimonials, and a review system

  • Free for everyone to use, including veterans and veteran-serving organizations.

ROGER streamlines access to vital resources, strengthens referral pathways, and reduces barriers to care so veterans and providers can find the right help—faster.

ROGER’S HISTORY

The original ROGER platform (ROGER.vet) was built by Backpacks For Life and currently operates exclusively in New Jersey. The Kyle Palmieri Foundation is partnering with Backpacks for Life to replicate ROGER in New York State. ROGER New York will be fully owned and operated by the Kyle Palmieri Foundation.

ROGER has made a measurable impact in New Jersey and was designed to simplify navigation across 400+ vetted resources in the state. In 2024, ROGER served nearly 11,000 veterans and caseworkers and generated nearly 38,000 resource views. These numbers reflect the urgent need for resources and services that are easily accessible. Expansion into New York will multiply this success, enabling thousands more veterans to access critical support before reaching crisis.
