JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – When professional hockey player Kyle Palmieri isn’t on the ice competing for the New Jersey Devils, he’s getting out in the community and supporting active duty and veteran service members and their families through his foundation.

Last week, Palmieri took a shot –with a hockey stick!—in an effort to make a Million Dollar “Goal in One” and raise $1 million for the Kyle Palmieri Foundation, whose mission is to “to give back to the patriots who put their lives on the line to preserve our freedoms as Americans.”

His million-dollar shot landed on the green of the signature par-3 14th hole at Liberty National Golf Club and just trickled off. His second attempt, however, landed within 12-feet of the hole, earning his foundation a $5,000 check on behalf of THE NORTHERN TRUST, the first event of the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs that returns to Jersey City this August.

The Million Dollar “Goal in One” challenge was part of the official announcement that the Kyle Palmieri Foundation and THE NORTHERN TRUST are teaming up on military outreach initiatives at the premier PGA TOUR event. Helping our nation’s military is an important cause for Kyle, as his sister and brother-in-law are currently serving in the Air National Guard and U.S. Army. Military support is also a key charitable pillar of THE NORTHERN TRUST.

“It is an honor to team up with THE NORTHERN TRUST and show appreciation to the men and women who are serving, and have served, this great country,” said Palmieri. “This is a cause that is so near and dear to my heart, so I’m thrilled to join forces with this top PGA TOUR event and recognize our nation’s military members all week long.”

“The work our country’s troops do each and every day is truly incredible and inspiring, and we are beyond excited to collaborate with Kyle Palmieri and his foundation and reward our military members and veterans with a world-class experience at THE NORTHERN TRUST this year,” said Executive Director of THE NORTHERN TRUST, Julie Tyson.

When the world’s best golfers compete at Liberty National Golf Club August 6-11, THE NORTHERN TRUST will continue its longstanding tradition of providing all active duty, Reserve, National Guard members and military retirees, along with registered dependents, with complimentary admission each day of the tournament, Tuesday through Sunday. In addition, veterans may receive up to two (2) complimentary tickets for each day, Tuesday – Sunday.

All military members, veterans and their families attending THE NORTHERN TRUST will have access to the Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost presented by United Rentals, where they can enjoy complimentary food and beverages, front-row seats to the action on the course and an opportunity to connect with fellow military community members. Located on the 4th green, the Patriots’ Outpost will be open from 8:00 am to the end of play each day, Tuesday through Sunday.

The Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost presented by United Rentals is a military-exclusive hospitality chalet.

Also during tournament week, The Birdies for the Brave Military Caddie Program will provide 52 active duty military members from all branches of the US Armed Forces with the opportunity to caddie for PGA TOUR players for one hole during the Pro Am.

Many of the caddies set to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime, inside-the-ropes opportunity will come from the Kyle Palmieri Foundation’s Squad21 program, a military recognition program whereby active and veteran service members and a guest can attend a New Jersey Devils home game and afterwards participate in a meet-and-greet with Kyle.

“Giving our Squad21 members this incredible inside-the-ropes experience will be an absolute dream come true,” said Palmieri. “Providing them with this VIP treatment at one of the most premier golf tournaments in the world will truly be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. We can’t wait for August!”
